Retire in Thailand - Land of Cheap Retirement

retirement living in thailand

You can retire in Thailand with dignity.

Retirement living in Thailand is not only doable but almost a must for some folks that are just barely getting by in the West.

If you're living on social security or pay near that then you know that once you finish paying off your regular bills and medications, you barely have enough money for a pack of wieners and some bread.

In Thailand you can realistically expect to live on about 30 to 40% less than what you currently live on. So for example if you live on $2000 usd a month in the States you can expect to live on about $1200 to $1400 usd in Thailand for the same quality of living.

The retired expat men and even the occasional expat woman appear to be much happier than many of the common retirement folks that I see living in the U.S. I think some of the major reasons for this is being able to get the medication you need cheaply, living a fun, active comfortable lifestyle and seeing the social smiling faces of Thais every day.

Thailand is a world of discovery so moving to a place like Thailand is like a whole nother journey. You will not get bored!

The retirement community in Thailand seemed to be pretty close as well. They share a great deal of information, they travel together to various places like Siem Reap, beaches, golf sites, well known seafood restaurants, etc. and do it cheaply.

I don't even have to mention the weather. You don't have to worry about the constant hot and cold fronts moving through your area which cause aching bones and headaches. The temperature is pretty consistent and you get about 2 to 3 months of rain a year depending on where you live. Even during the rainy season it will rain for a few hours then clear up, I personally love and almost need the weather in Thailand.

Cleaning Services

When you retire in Thailand you don't need to think about the little things like cleaning, ironing and washing your clothes unless you want to. All apartments, houses, and condos have some type of monthly cleaning and laundry service available. In most cases it only costs 800 to 1,500 Thai Baht a month for these services. Heck you can have a personal maid for around 5,000 Thai Baht a month!

The service and hospitality for cleaning services is just great. The people who do these jobs don't expect a whole lot out of life and they accept their status in it so they seem content. So I believe the kindness that you get from these people is genuine hospitality.

If you decide to retire in Thailand you'll obviously need good health care and Thailand has it.

Health care costs and insurance premiums are much cheaper than in the U.S. Doctor and hospital visits are so cheap in fact; you almost don't need insurance at a lower to mid-range priced hospital. You can check into a very good hospital emergency room, see the doctor, and leave with medication pills in hand all for about $25 usd with-out insurance.

For more information on health, hospitals, and insurance I strongly urge you to take a look at the health section.
