Most of the restaurants listed here are Bangkok restaurants.
I've tried to put together the best Thai restaurant guide I possibly could by picking my favorites; obviously I can't possibly go to all Bangkok restaurants to judge as there are just too many. That's why I'll always be adding to these pages and asking you, the viewer, your best restaurant gems so I can add them here.
I LOVE the variety of restaurants throughout Thailand. And it's not just Thai food either. Bangkok and most towns through-out Thailand have some of the best German, Italian, French, Middle Eastern, Japanese and American food restaurants out there.
A great Thai restaurant in an easy to find location. This is one of the first, more formal (formal as opposed to eating on the street or in the corner restaurant), sit down restaurants I went to.
One of the best things about this restaurant is you can sample manydifferent Thai style dishes in one location. They have a few Chiang Mai specialties, quite a few Isan staples, and of course many traditional Thai dishes.
Some of my personal favorites at Ban Khun Mae are:
The menu has an extensive selection of tasty healthy dishes.
Don't forget to save room for some of the best Thai desserts in Bangkok. Try the pumpkin with coconut milk sauce here.
It's located in Siam Square not too far from Siam Paragon and MBK.
address: 458/7-9 Siam Square Soi 8phone: 02 250 1952-3
Ban Khun Mae Thai Restaurant Review Here.
The place is always busy, has a mediocre dinning atmosphere, and the service is not the best BUT they do know seafood.
Try the egg curry crab and black pepper crab, they arefantastic! These guys are serious about anything that swims.
From what I understand there are other locations around Bangkok but I've never been to any of those, only this one in Huay Kwang. Be careful of taxi or tuk-tuk drivers telling you they will take you here as the driver will most likely get a kick back. It's much better to take the MRT as noted below.
The ease of access to this location couldn't be ANY better. You basically get off the Huay-Kwang MRT subway station go up the stairs, turn to your right and there it is, seafood heaven.
If you happen to be on the go and need to find quick cheap Thai food that still tastes good and fills the tummy then you might find that Black Canyon restaurants are not bad at all. They also serve a mean cup of java.
I believe their best dishes are pasta fusion. They mix Italian Pasta with traditional Thai staple dishes. Here are just a couple of quick delicious selections from the menu.
You can't miss them as they are all over Bangkok and growing by leaps and bounds for good reason.
This Thai restaurant is one of the best examples of Issan food from the Northeast of Thailand. Isan food is a little different from regular Thai food.
The thing that makes this restaurant so good though is the relaxedoutdoor atmosphere. This place really makes you want to stay and converse with friends which is what their goal is anyway.
Live music every day, you'll enjoy it.

Another fantastic example of traditional Isan food is Lan Som Tam Nua(meaning Som Tom Paradise). Som Tom is a spicy papaya salad. As noted Isan food is even spicier that traditional Thai food so be warned.
This restaurant has the look of raw concrete inside and out and for some reason it works. Prices are reasonable if you can get in.
The location of this restaurant is in the heart of Siam Square on Soi 4 but be prepared to wait for a seat as they busy day or night. If your Thai girlfriend is from Isan and you take her here she'll instantly fall in love with you, lol!
There are also a few restaurants around Bangkok and Thailand for that matter, which have restaurants over giant ponds. Some of these restaurants are floating on the water and you sit or recline on hugecushions. You order your fish from the menu and they go catch it from the pond. The pond usually has these huge spinning mill things that oxygenate the water for the fish.
I love this type of restaurant as it is very relaxing and fun.
I wish I knew the name and location of some of these but don't, they are usually not advertised and unknown to Westerners. I will find out more information on these in the future and post it here.
Egyptian Restaurant,
Best chicken fried rice in Bangkok, period! I didn't really know a whole lot about Middle Eastern food until a friend brought me here, and I'm glad he did.
The yogurt, beans, and vegetables are the best. I've ordered all kinds of things from the menu and have never gone wrong. How many places can you go and basically close your eyes, point at something and have a100% chance of it being good? Not too many but this place is on the money. The various drinks are unique and awesome too but remember they don't serve alcohol here.
The decor is absolutely Middle Eastern with Arab videos playing on the T.V. The only bad thing is that the server may not completely understand you as they mostly speak Arab.
Address: This place is located on Sukhumvit Soi 3. In-between Grace Hotel and Kasikorn Bank and opposite the Bamboo Beer Bar.
This whole area actually has some great Middle Eastern restaurants.
This place has wonderful food in an elegant atmosphere with-out the elegant prices. I don't know how long the prices will stay the way they are but you are definitely getting more than you pay for. Most menu items are around $10 to $15 USD but the quality and taste of the food is top notch.
The flavors and style really take me back and remind me of Napa Valleyduring the late 90's.
For the price you really have no excuse to miss this place.
Address: This Bangkok restaurant is located in the Silom area off Convent Rd. My wife's daughter's school, St. Joseph, is right next to Eat Me so needless to say we "hung out" here a great deal.
Eat Me Restaurant Reviews Here.
More style than you can shake a stick at. This is a Japanese restaurant that use to be a French restaurant before 2005. I don't know if I would really call it a restaurant either, it's more like a grounds or small park area.
At night this place turns into a trendy night club with Bangkok's finest models and "in" crowd coming to gather. My good friend, DJ Valadie played here often and on occasion still makes appearances.
On New Year's this place gets packed and turns into what feels like a giant house party.
The red colors they use make me feel like I'm in a Kill Bill Movie, lol!
The bathrooms are pretty unique and entertaining.
Oh yeah, the food is pricey but very good.
Address: Koi is located on Sukhumvit Soi 20, about 3 quarters of the way down on the right hand side.
They also have locations in Las Vegas, New York and Los Angeles.
You know that if you stay in any foreign country long enough you'll miss the staple food you could get so easily at home. So I've listed a couple of my homesick favorites. However, nothing is quite like home.
I think the most difficult type of restaurant to find in Bangkok is Mexican. Good burgers and pizza are easy to find but Bangkok just does not get Mexican food right. I know because I'm half Hispanic. I think the reason for this is you just don't see many Mexicans around Thailand.
But I did find one decent fast food Mexican restaurant I liked.
Sunrise Tacos. The food is fresh and tastes good. The corn chips are crispy, the flour tortillas are delicious and the salsa isn't bad either.
The best thing about this restaurant is that it's open 24 hours and in a great location in the middle of Sukhumvit soi 12 and 14. So if you're out late at one of Bangkok's night clubs painting the town red and have a craving for Mexican, stop by here and be satisfied.
They have other locations at Siam Paragon and The Emporium as well.
I satisfied my sweet tooth at Daddy Dough. I found this place just by accident. I was walking by and peeked in the window at some doughnutsand thought, wow those look like the real deal, and bam!, they were. I can't tell you how hard it is for most places in Thailand to get sweets like cake, bread or doughnuts right but this place nailed it!
Address: They are located off of Silom Road in Bangkok, just a short walk from the Holiday Inn Silom Hotel and right next to The Silom Galleria.
They also have a location in Pattaya now as well, right off the beach near KFC.
But you can't eat like this too much as it feels out of place in a land as exotic as Thailand, plus you'll get fat!
Thai people love Fuji Restaurant. It's a moderately priced Japanese sushi restaurant. If you have Thai friends you'll eventually end up here.
These restaurants are all over Bangkok, mostly seen in malls.
Thais also enjoy restaurants like MK, where you sit down and cook something like a soup. MK restaurants are everywhere, mostly in Malls as well.
However, if you're serious about your soup, there is only ONE place to go in Bangkok and that is.....
You pour in any kind of seafood, meat or veggies you like and cook your soup at your table. Chinese Thais are CRAZY about this place.
It's located in Siam Square not too far from Siam Paragon and MBK.
Address: 486 Siam Square Soi 7phone: 02 255 4455-6
Also, food courts in all the various Bangkok malls are fantastic as well. Lots of choices, not just Thai restaurants, and you can mix and match. So if your significant other is feeling Italian and your feeling Indian you can both eat what you like and sit together.
